Jethalal Champaklal Gada is a resident of the Gokuldham society. He is the proprietor of Gada Electronics and an ideal son, a perfect husband, and a caring father. However, he is quite careless and lazy (evident by the fact that he is a late riser).

He is a foodie and loves to eat meals prepared by his wife Daya (who loves him the most). He is sometimes scolded by his father Champaklal for being strict with Daya and his son Tapu. He has an innocent crush on his neighbour Babita and leaves no chance to impress her. His luck is quite bad, and he always gets trapped into problems. He is always very distraught about his brother-in-law Sundar. Whenever he meets him, Sundar gives him a loss of thousands of rupees. Jethalal's mother passed away in 1986.

He is shown to be very tensed about his father who seldom supports him in an argument; Tapu who instigates the secretary Bhide to fights with him; Nattu Kaka who always demands hike in his salary and Bagha who along with his business ideas and girlfriend Bawari irritates him. He fluently speaks Hindi, Kutchi, Gujarati and Marathi. He also knows few English words.

His main archenemy is Iyer, Babita's husband, whom he tries to keep away when he and Babita are together. His best friend is Taarak Mehta, who acts his troubleshooter and mentor. Jethalal loves to eat jalebi-fafda, a famous Gujarati snack.
