Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Fuller Olsen (born June 13, 1986), also known as the Olsen twins, are American fashion designers and former actresses. Mary-Kate and Ashley made their acting debut as infants playing Michelle Tanner on the television sitcom Full House (1987–1995). As they grew older, they began starring in other television shows, films, and media through their own production company, Dualstar. The twins became preteen icons, and some of the wealthiest women in the entertainment industry at a young age.
The Olsens stepped away from acting in the mid-2000s and entered the fashion design industry. They founded their own luxury fashion label in 2006, The Row, based in New York City. They have won several awards from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
Lives and career
Childhood and acting career
The twins were born in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, to David "Dave" Olsen and Jarnette "Jarnie" (née Jones). Ashley is two minutes older than Mary-Kate. They have an older brother, Trent, and a younger sister, actress Elizabeth, as well as a half-sister, Courtney Taylor, and a half-broth
The Olsen Family: All About Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth Olsen's Siblings
While twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are household names (along with their younger sister Elizabeth), their other siblings tend to stay out of the spotlight.
The famous pair — who first skyrocketed to fame for their joint role as Michelle Tanner in Full House — are sisters to four siblings: Elizabeth, Trent, Courtney and Jake.
Trent, Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth were all born to parents Jarnette and David Olsen in Sherman Oaks, California. The couple divorced in 1996, and David went on to welcome two more children — Courtney and Jake — with his second wife, McKenzie.
Though Mary-Kate and Ashley are ultra-private and haven't said much publicly about their siblings, they've made their love for them clear in little ways. In fact, the twins even named their lifestyle brand, Elizabeth and James, after their brother and sister.
"I always felt that having older twin sisters was an advantage,” Elizabeth told Harper's Bazaar UK in 2022. “I felt very clear about how I was going to navigate lots of things because of watching them. I also felt very protected.”
Keep reading for everything to know about the six Olsen siblings.
Trent Olsen
Trent Olsen is the oldest of the Olsen siblings. He was born on May 6, 1984, in Sherman Oaks. Though he goes by his middle name, his actual first name is James, which serves as one-half of the inspiration behind Mary-Kate and Ashley's Elizabeth and James brand.
As a child, Trent appeared in several of his twin sisters' videos, including You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Sleepover Party and Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen: Our First Video. According to a 2014 profile in the New York Post, he and his sisters attended Campbell Hall School in Los Angeles, and he went on to graduate from the University of Southern California.
In 2014, Trent was working at Storm King Productions, which was founded by John Carpe
Ashley, Mary-Kate and Elizabeth Olsen Have a Rare and Very Stylish Sister Date in N.Y.C.
It's a rare occasion that Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth Olsen all step out together, but the three sisters did just that in New York City this week.
The elder sisters, 37, and Elizabeth, 34, were all seen on a family night out on Feb. 6, keeping things low-key but still stylish. All three Olsens were bundled up in chic dark coats and accessories. Elizabeth topped off her look with a chic beanie. And it wouldn't be the Olsens without oversize bags on their arms!

The rare outing for Mary-Kate and Ashley is made even more rare with the addition of their younger sister. The Row designers were out together in November in New York City — serving up serious winter-weather fashion inspo — just a couple months after Ashley welcomed her first baby with her husband, Louis Eisner. The couple tied the knot in December 2022 after first being linked in October 2017.
Though Mary-Kate and Ashley keep a low profile, choosing to work behind the scenes on their fashion label after living their younger years in the spotlight, Elizabeth's life is anything but. However, she still keeps rather mum on her family life, since her sisters' lives are so private.

Elizabeth Olsen Has Way More Siblings Than Just Mary-Kate and Ashley
Elizabeth Olsen is probably best known for defeating villains in Marvel's Avengers movies and in the spinoff Disney+ TV series WandaVision, as well as portraying real-life killer Candy Montgomery in the new HBO Max series Love & Death. But back in the day, she was better known as the younger sister of some very famous twins.
In case Elizabeth Olsen's name—or the fact that she looks exactly like them—didn't tip you off, Elizabeth is the younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. But as it turns out, she actually has a few other siblings, too.

There's her older brother, as well as a younger half-sister and half-brother from her dad's second marriage, adding up to a total of six Olsen children.
But with those über-talented genes running in the family, you know that even the lesser-known Olsens are all leading their own very successful lives. So if you've ever wanted to find out more about all of Elizabeth's siblings, here's everything you need to know about each one of them.
James Trent Olsen
The oldest Olsen sibling has managed to stay out of the spotlight himself for the most part, although he did have a few cameos in his younger sisters' You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Sleepover Party and The Case of the Mystery Cruise, in which he played himself. But he was kind of a brilliant entrepreneur from a very young age and would sell his famous twin sisters' autographs to other kids at school.
While he goes by his middle name Trent, it was his first name, James—along with Elizabeth's—that inspired the name of Mary-Kate and Ashely's fragrance line: Elizabeth and James.
The now 38-year-old Olsen is a graduate of New York Film Academy where he studied screenwriting and acting, and he now works in movie production, so he's not totally out of the industry. He's also a successful comic book writer for Storm King Comics.
