Michael Waterstone was appointed the 18th dean and senior vice president of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. Waterstone’s tenure began on June 1, 2016.

Waterstone is a leading scholar on the civil rights of persons with disabilities and an influential voice in the national disability community. He has published articles in top law reviews, authored a casebook, has testified before the United States Senate and has worked extensively with foreign governments and nongovernmental organizations internationally on disability laws. Waterstone previously served as the J. Howard Ziemann Fellow and professor of law at Loyola Law School.

Waterstone has taught at the University of Mississippi Law School, the University of Haifa and Northwestern Pritzker Law School. Daniel Rodriguez, dean and Harold Washington Professor of Law at Northwestern said, “Professor Waterstone’s appointment as Loyola’s next dean is a great decision by an ambitious law school. I am confident he will be a supremely successful leader for the school in this dynamic new era.”

Prior to his academic appointments, Waterstone practiced law in Los Angeles at Munger, Tolles & Olson, LLP. Waterstone joined Loyola’s faculty in 2006, and from 2009 to 2014 he served as associate dean for research and academic centers. He helped develop an ambitious networking program for first-year students that was recognized by PreLaw Magazine as one of the most innovative programs of the year.     Richard’s practice involves some of the most significant enforcement, supervisory, and governance matters affecting the financial services industry. Richard represents financial services companies and their officers and directors, as well as accountants, attorneys, and other professionals, in significant enforcement or investigative proceedings brought by federal or state agencies. He has led the firm’s representation of clients in high-profile matters initiated by, among others, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the US Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

    Richard was the Managing Partner of Arnold & Porter from 2005 through 2015 and its Chair from 2016 through 2024.

    Richard also serves on the Board of Justice in Aging, a national legal advocacy organization. Previously, Richard served in the Enforcement and Compliance Division of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

    Richard joined the College of Law Board of Advisors in 2013 and is a Syracuse University Trustee.

    Keisha Audain-Pressley is an executive vice president and leader in Pacific Investment Management Company’s (PIMCO) Legal and Compliance department. She serves as the Chief Compliance Officer for the U.S. Registered Funds. She is also a member of the leadership team for the investment advisory compliance program.

    Before joining PIMCO in 2011, Keisha was a senior vice president and senior compliance officer at Neuberger Berman Management. Previously, Keisha was a chief compliance officer in Lehman Brothers’ investment management division. In her prior roles, she was responsible for the compliance program of registered investment advisers

    Michael O. Sawyer

    American constitutional law professor (1919–2002)

    Michael O. Sawyer (1919–2002) was an American university administrator and constitutional law professor who worked at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University for over 42 years. He was known for his mentoring of thousands of students.

    Early life and education

    Sawyer earned his BS (1941), MS (1947), & PhD (1957) from Syracuse University. He also earned a JD from the George Washington University (1962). His 1952 doctoral thesis was titled "Study of the activities of citizenship (A survey of two diverse communities)".

    He was a Ford Foundationpost-doctoral fellow, and was a scholar-in-residence for the United States Commission on Civil Rights.

    Career

    Sawyer began his career as an instructor at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in 1948 and was promoted to assistant professor (1952), associate professor (1957), and full professor in 1965. In 1970s, he began working with Syracuse chancellor Melvin Eggers in various administrative posts.

    Sawyer published many articles, conference papers, and several books on public law, American studies. He held visiting lectureships at the University of Colorado, University of Delaware, University of Georgia, University of North Carolina, University of Notre Dame, and University of Oregon.

    Awards and honors

    At Syracuse, He received several university awards, including the Outstanding Professor of Syracuse University (1986), Syracuse's highest alumni – honor the George Arents Pioneer Medal (1986), and the St. Thomas More Award (1987).

    Michael A. Bottar

    Michael is president of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, the largest statewide trial bar in the nation.  

    He is an accomplished courtroom advocate who brings more than 20 years of experience to the prosecution of medical malpractice, wrongful death, construction accident, and other complex personal injury actions throughout the State of New York.  Well-known for his expertise, Michael is frequently retained by injured attorneys, physicians, nurses, and other professionals pursing claims for stroke, heart attack, birth injuries, surgical errors, cancer misdiagnosis, and liability under the Federal Tort Claims Act.  

    Michael is a graduate of Colgate University and is a summa cum laude (top 2%) graduate of Syracuse University College of Law where was an adjunct professor of law for a decade, co-authors the "Civil Practice" chapter of the Syracuse Law Review’s Survey on New York law, and served on the law school's Board of Advisors 2012-2022.

    Michael has been selected by his colleagues for inclusion in the oldest peer-reviewed publication in the legal profession, The Best Lawyers In America®. For the areas of plaintiff's medical malpractice, product liability and personal injury, he is the youngest attorney in central New York listed in Best Lawyers®, and is the only attorney in Syracuse listed in all three fields. Mr. Bottar was honored by The Best Lawyers In America® as:
