    1K-pop, as a musical (sub)genre, can be interpreted as being a transnational artistic production that, in turn, has as its main objective the engagement of audiences, at different levels of industrially created global imagination (Yoon, 2018). Thinking about Appadurai’s (1996) considerations, we can state that this musical genre is guided by a constellation of permanent tensions, between those that are the processes of cultural homogenisation and the processes of heterogeneity (Regev, 2013) and authenticity. Then, based on this assumption, we can say that K-pop is also assumed as a media, cultural and social phenomenon.

    2In fact, the growth and evolution of K-pop since the 1990s is intrinsically related to the dissemination of pop idols, an aspect that reached a different scale with the globalization of the group BTS. These bangtang boys epitomise the numerous processes of global mediation at the level of the South Korean recording industry, but also regarding digital and non-digital media. Dissemination is perhaps the industry’s main concern, hence it is personalised, multifaceted and global, something visible in the millions of views that music videos get within hours of their release.     Kim Hyun-joong (Korean: 김현중; Hanja: 金賢重; born June 6, 1986) is a South Korean actor, singer and songwriter. He is a member of the boy bandSS501 and played roles in the Korean dramasBoys Over Flowers and Playful Kiss.

    After debuting with SS501 in 2005, Kim released his first Korean solo album, Break Down, in 2011, and his first Japanese solo album, Unlimited, in 2012. Due to his commercial success, Kim is considered one of South Korea's biggest Hallyu stars of the early 2010s.

    Early life and education

    Kim Hyun-joong was born on June 6, 1986, in Seoul. He described himself as a studious child, but he dropped out of high school to pursue a career in music. He later passed his high school exams and enrolled in Kyonggi University. After dropping out of university to focus on work, Kim enrolled in Chungwoon University in 2011 to study stage production management.

    Kim made his debut as a member of SS501 on June 23, 2005, with the group's first EP, Warning, released by DSP Media. Their second EP, Snow Prince was released in late 2005, five months after their debut. The group quickly gained popularity, winning multiple new artist awards in 2005 and 2006. The following year, in 2007, SS501 debuted in Japan with the single "Kokoro," which reached number five on the Oricon charts. In January 2008, the group received a Newcomer Award at the Japan Gold Disc Award ceremony, making them one of only a few South Korean artists to win this award.

    Princess Hours (Korean: 궁; Hanja: 宫; RR: Goong; lit. Palace) is a 2006 South Korean television series, starring Yoon Eun-hye, Ju Ji-hoon, Kim Jeong-hoon and Song Ji-hyo. It is based on Korean manhwaGoong by Park So-hee. It aired on MBC from January 11 to March 30, 2006, on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 21:55 for 24 episodes.

    The show was the tenth most popular drama of 2006, with a peak rating of 28.3%. It also became a hit across Asia, contributing to the Korean Wave. Due to its success, a spin-off series, Prince Hours, was broadcast in 2007.

    Synopsis

    The show is set in an alternate, 21st-century Korea which has retained its monarchy and imperial family since 1945. The series focuses on the lives of Crown Prince Lee Shin of Korea, and his new bride, Chae-kyeong.

    The series starts off with the news that Shin's father, Emperor Lee Hyeon of Korea, is seriously ill. There is a grim outlook on the Emperor's health, driving the imperial family to find Shin a suitable consort that will allow him to ascend to the throne if the situation requires. Despite being in love with the ambitious and talented ballerina Hyo-rin (whom he initially proposed to and was rejected), Prince Shin eventually marries a commoner to whom he was betrothed by his grandfather, the late Emperor Seongjo, in an agreement with the girl's grandfather. His new wife is the headstrong yet lovable Chae-kyeong, and despite initially feeling nothing for each other, love eventually blossoms between the couple.
