Ayrton Senna da Silva (Brazilian Portuguese:[aˈiʁtõˈsẽnɐdɐˈsiwvɐ]; 21 March – 1 May ) was a Brazilian racing driver, who competed in Formula One from to Senna won three Formula One World Drivers' Championship titles with McLaren, and—at the time of his death—held the record for most pole positions (65), among others; he won 41 Grands Prix across 11 seasons.
Born and raised in São Paulo, Senna began competitive kart racing aged 13; his first go-kart was built by his father using a lawnmower engine. After twice finishing runner-up at the Karting World Championship, Senna progressed to Formula Ford in , dominating the British and European championships in his debut seasons. He then won the British Formula Three Championship amidst a close title battle with Martin Brundle, further winning the Macau Grand Prix that year. Starting this Sunday, April 6th, TV Globo will air an exclusive documentary about Ayrton Senna during the show Esporte Espetacular. It will be divided in four episodes, which promise to be a “big gift to all the fans who love the Brazilian driver to this day”, as described by host Glenda Kozlowski on TV Globo’s promo for the documentary.
The network’s news team delved deep into the driver’s history, delivering a great film, which includes special moments of Senna’s career, like the duels with Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet, the races in the rain and the pact with the Brazilian national soccer team when the squad became a four-time world champion, in
“It was like seeing Pelé playing”, says the national team’s coach at the time, Carlos Alberto Parreira, documentary’s interviewees. The film also features other TV personalities, like William Bonner, Luciano Huck and Pedro Bial, to name a few.
Drivers were also interviewed, as well as people who were close to the driver as he reached his F-1 peak. “He wanted to teach me through experience”, says Bruno Senna, Ayrton’s nephew. “He always was and always will be Ayrton Senna from Brazil”, says Galvão Bueno on the promo for de documentary broadcasted by TV Globo.

Senna is a Brazilian biographicaldrama television miniseries created by Vicente Amorim[pt] and directed by Amorim and Júlia Rezende[pt], based on the life of racing driverAyrton Senna, and starring Gabriel Leone as Senna. The series was produced by Brazilian studio Gullane Entretenimento[pt] with funding from American studio Netflix, in collaboration with the Senna family. Budgeted at $ million, it is the most expensive Brazilian television series in history.
The series was released on Netflix on 29 November It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised Leone's performance, the production design, and the racing scenes, but criticised the character development, historical inaccuracies and perceived bias. It received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Series at the 30th Critics' Choice Awards.
Plot
The series follows Senna's life from the beginning of his racing career in karting to his untimely death at the San Marino Grand Prix. Particular emphasis is paid to Senna's relationship with his parents and girlfriend Xuxa Meneghel, rivalry with Alain Prost, feud with Jean-Marie Balestre, and complex relationship with the sensationalist racing media.
