I was a 9yr old class three pupil, when Dr. Kilemi Mwiria entered the Tigania West scene in 2002. 10 years later, at 19, I was sitting my K.C.S.E exams, as he finished his 2nd five-year term as Tigania West MP. Throughout my formative years I grew up idolising Kilemi, following him, immortalising him. How could I not, when everyone around me was singing his name? Even the birds knew and sang Kilemi's name... Sometimes, if you listened closely, you'd hear the winds whispering the Doctor's name.

So, you all can believe me when I tell you that my academic efforts, and excellence as well as my view of life and focus, was largely influenced by Kilemi. This, believe me you, was also the case for thousands of other Tigania kids who by good luck, happened to exist within this timespan... He was an enigma, and rightly so.

For perspective, he was the guest of honor in our primary school's prize-giving party in 2006. He was also the honoured guest in the famous fundraiser in aid of the construction of our local church. Kilemi was pretty much everywhere, and like a shadow, development stubbornly followed.

Dr Mwiria was immensely loved. Not surprisingly, because he was and still is, handsome. Being development oriented as he was was another feather in his cap. Proverbially, he was the Moses of our time. He was the man the parents wanted their kids to look up to. I remember one day while on a visit to my maternal grandparents in Akithii, my uncle spent an entire evening stressing to me how I needed to emulate Dr Kilemi academically. You will be a doctor like him, he said, with a glow on his brow.

Kenyan politician

Dr Mwiria Valerian Kilemi (born May 17, 1954) is a Kenyan politician and scholar. He belongs to the Maendeleo Chap Chap party headed by Machakos GovernorAlfred Mutua and was elected to represent the Tigania West Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election.

In 2012, he contested and lost the Meru County gubernatorial seat to Peter Munya, in a disputed election that was unsuccessfully challenged in court. At the moment, he is the presidential advisor on education. He has also contested for Member of Parliament, Tigania west, in the 2022 elections and lost. His most notable achievements has been the chairing of the task force mandated to review the secondary school fees structure. This has been lauded by parents and the general public at large.
