Frank James LampardOBE (born 20 June 1978) is an English professional football manager and former player who is the manager of EFL Championship club Coventry City. Widely regarded as one of Chelsea's greatest players ever and one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, Lampard has the record of the most goals by a midfielder in the Premier League and most goals from outside the box (41). He ranked highly on a number of statistics for Premier League players for the ten years from 1 December 2000, including most games and most wins.

A box-to-box midfielder, Lampard began his career in 1995 at West Ham United, the club where his father Frank Sr. also played. In 2001, he was signed by London rivals Chelsea for £11 million. In his thirteen years with the club, Lampard established himself as a prolific scorer from midfield, becoming the club's all-time leading goalscorer, with 211 goals in all competitions. At Chelsea, Lampard won three Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, four FA Cups, and two League Cups. In 2005, he was named FWA Footballer of the Year, and finished runner-up for both the Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year. After leaving Chelsea, Lampard played for league rivals Manchester City and Major League Soccer club New York City FC before retiring in 2017. Lampard played 106 matches and scored 29 goals for the England national team, after making his debut in 1999. He represented his country at three FIFA World Cups – in 2006, 2010 and 2014 – and in UEFA Euro 2004, where he was named in the Team of the Tournament. Lampard was voted England Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

And is now the new coventry city head coach. He was known at his playing time at Chelsea. He is the son of Frank Lampard Senior, a former West Ham and England player. Lampard went to Brentwood School in Essex, where amongst other subjects, he studied Latin and gained an A* grade.

Playing Career

Frank Lampard started his footballing career at West Ham United. Lampard joined West Ham, where his father was the assistant coach, as an apprentice in July 1994 as part of their youth system, and signed his professional forms a year later. He was loaned to Division Two team Swansea City in October 1995, and debuted in a 2-0 win over Bradford City. Lampard made nine league appearances for Swansea before returning to West Ham in January 1996, with whom he played his first match at the end of the month against Coventry City F.C., and spent the remainder of the season as a reserve.

The next year, a broken leg suffered in a March game against Aston Villa prematurely put an end to Lampard's 1996-97 season after thirteen appearances. He had to wait until the '97-98 campaign to score his first goal for West Ham, which came in a road victory over Barnsley F.C. Background

Frank James Lampard was born in London in 1978, to his father of the same name, and his mother, Patricia Harris. His father was himself a successful footballer, playing for West Ham United, and his uncle is Harry Redknapp. Frank Junior was one of three children, and his cousin is Jamie Redknapp.

His family well supported Frank’s interests in sport and his education. He was intelligent and athletic as a child and left school with 11 GCSEs. His interest in reading and writing continues to this day, and he has written many children’s books as well as his autobiography.

Early Career

Frank started his football career at West Ham United in 1994, while his father was an assistant coach. The following year, he signed a professional contract with West Ham, but actually made his professional debut with Swansea city due to being on loan.

After returning to West Ham, he attracted praise and attention after scoring a hat-trick against Walsall in the 1997/8 season. By 2000, he was part of the England team’s senior squad. 

Time at Chelsea FC

In 2001, Lampard was transferred to Chelsea for 11 million Euros. He quickly gained recognition, finishing in second place as FWA’s Footballer of the Year in 2004. Lampard’s two goals against Bolton Wanderers in 2004 were instrumental in Chelsea’s successful Premier League campaign, and they took home the trophy that season. The club’s 2007 FA Cup victory was largely down to Lampard providing a crucial assist to Didier Drogba.

In 2008, Lampard scored the winning goal in the final of the FA Cup, against Everton. He was named the best player in the Chelsea squad, and nominated for FIFA World Player of the Year in 2009.
