The kids who live in their parents’ shadows

Children of the famous aren’t the only ones living under the veil of successful parents. The experience is common – and the effects ripple well into adulthood.

When Ryan decided to study teaching, he knew his father would be upset. The year-old special-education administrator, who lives in Maryland, US, wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. His father, an immigrant and accomplished doctor, thought he should study medicine.

Ryan’s dad had worked hard to give his children opportunities in the US, and he wanted them to make the most of them. For a long time, Ryan assumed he would follow his father’s example. But when he started studying science in college, he realised medicine wasn’t a fit. Breaking the news to his father was stressful. “My dad was really disappointed,” says Ryan.

It’s often the offspring of the uber famous who come to mind when people think about what it means to live in a parent’s shadow. For instance, singer Willow Smith, the daughter of entertainers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, has described growing up with famous parents as “absolutely, excruciatingly terrible”. Colin Hanks, the actor son of Tom Hanks, said he struggled to be his own person. And writer Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of US politicians Bill and Hillary Clinton, has lamented being “made fun of so much as a child” on talk shows.

But beyond those in the bright lights, there’s a whole world of children like Ryan, whose non-famous parents also cast large shadows over their lives.

Of course, all kids are impacted by their parents. Children learn early on that they depend on their caregivers for survival, says Amy Morin, a psychotherapist in Florida, US, host of The Verywell Mind Podcast and author of 13 Things Mentally Strong Parents Don't Do. Because of that reliance, kids might suppress behaviours or personality traits to gain “more a

The Shadow Dragons (,Jaaku Ryū, lit. "Evil Dragons") are evil beings created by the overuse and built-up negative energies of the Dragon Balls over the series, and the Earth Shadow Dragons are the final villains in Dragon Ball GT. In Dragon Ball Fusions, they are considered part of the Offworlder race. In Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, they are referred to as the Legion of Shadow Dragons.

The avatars that have been taken over by the Earth Shadow Dragons in Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission are referred to collectively as the Disciples of Evil.

    Concept[]

The Shadow Dragons were all part of one original Dragon.

    Shadow Dragon Saga[]

The Shadow Dragons are a direct consequence of the numerous uses of the Dragon Balls over the course of the Dragon Ball series. Every time a wish was made with the Balls, negative energy was released along with the positive energy. In response, the Dragon Balls would absorb the negative energy and disperse it harmlessly over many years.

Originally, the difficulty of finding and assembling all seven Dragon Balls meant that they had plenty of time to disperse the negative power accumulated from each wish, but increasingly advanced technology (such as the Dragon Radar) made finding the artifacts a simple task. Moreover, a seemingly endless succession of powerful villains forced the defenders of Earth to use the Dragon Balls just to repair the damage done to the planet and its people. Consequently, the Balls had less and less time to disperse the negative energy, causing a large amount of it to build up in the Dragon Balls. When the Balls could take no more, they cracked. Upon attempting to summon the Eternal Dragon, however, Goku and the others unknowingly released the negative energy in the form of an evil Dragon named Black Smoke Shenron, who separated

    Calypsonian from Tobago (–)

    Musical artist

Winston McGarland Bailey (4 October – 23 October ), better known by his stage nameThe Mighty Shadow or Shadow, was a calypsonian from Tobago.

    Career

Bailey was born in Belmont, a suburb of Port of Spain in Trinidad, but grew up in Les Coteaux, Tobago, with his grandparents. He started singing calypsos at the age of 8.

At the age of 16 he moved back to Port of Spain, where for a time he was homeless while trying to established himself. In he performed as part of the chorus in Mighty Sparrow's 'Young Brigade' calypso tent, and by the following year he had begun to establish himself as a calypsonian in his own right. He chose the stage name "Shadow" (he didn't use "Mighty" himself) after coming across some workmen digging a road while he was walking. One of the workmen was in a hole below the road surface and the others were calling him "Shadow", and Bailey said: "I felt like they was calling me". In his early years he performed wearing all black, with a large hat covering part of his face.

The Guardian newspaper, speaking of Shadow's stagecraft, argued that he had "a persona and outlook that stood in dramatic contrast to the classic bravura of the typical calypsonian, one that might have been expected to generate either bemusement or scorn in his native Trinidad and Tobago", and yet noted that on the contrary his stage presence and music "proved so original, so eerily amusing and so engaging that [he] quickly came to be hailed as one of the greats".

He won the Road March in with "Bassman" (where he also placed second with "I Come Out to Play") by a record margin, and won again in with "Stranger", making him the competition's oldest winner. He won the Calypso Monarch contest in with "What's Wrong With Me" and "Scratch Meh Back".[4
